I'm looking forward to the 2008 release if we get it, but for the near
future I'll be stuck with 2007 and XP.

But...
After the debacle with LDT 2K7, you might wish to "ease" into Vista for 2K8.
It might be able to hit the ground running, but I'd give it a trial run on
one PC 1st. And the one PC might be safest disconnected from the rest of the
Network, until you know it's free from "issues".

I have XP. I am going to install 2 drives..one with XP and all my current
apps and one with Vista. I will boot to XP for Autocad and Vista for
whatever.

I see they're charging extra for XP Pro.

caddman "minimum" would only serve to get the firm's staff and clients
fairly well disgruntled.
And in a rather short amount of time, I might add. 😮
May I suggest something along the lines of this?

You can use the Configure Now button at the bottom of that page to check the
price of however you want it configured.
May I suggest also that you stay away from Vista - for now at least.
XP Pro will serve you just fine, and I'll agree on the 2GB of RAM.
But looking at my specs below, I'll bet you could guess that already. ;0)

Thats pretty much the same as we have been buying:
Athlon 64 x2 6000+
2gb DDR800
Quadro fx560 128mb Video
Older Civil machines are as slow as a 4200+, but no slower. 2gb of ram is
highly suggested as are the dual monitors.

We have been buying this type of spec for C3D systems.
Core 2 Duo 6600 processors
2 G ram
Nvidia Quadro 560 video cards
While we have the program installed on some lesser machines, you will want
the full time users on something like this.
And of course dual displays are a must.
