PC Cleaner type programs

Does anyone have experience (either good or bad) with programs such as
Netcom 3 Cleaner? Are they really as good as they claim or do they do as
much potential damage as good?

All I know is in the AutoCAD Installation Help I think it was that they say
to NOT run registry cleaning software because it may remove registry keys
needed for the ActiveX interface. It's probably the reason why the newer
versions of AutoCAD now have a Repair Registry option in the Reinstall along
with the full reinstall.

I like hijackthis http://www.merijn.org/index.php and spybot search and
destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html. With any reg cleaner
or program of the sort you have to be carful! You have to make sure it is
not going to remove or change something you need. Both of the programs above
let you uncheck the item before you tell it to fix the others. If you do not
know what it is and can't find info online, then leave it stay or you may
end up with a program that no longer runs right!

I've been using CCleaner (free)and it has helped removed lots of old files staying on after uninstalling older versions of aca... granted you might have to reinstall aca 2008 because it might use some registries from older versions.. but afterwards i've notice no problems

I have been using Ad-Aware & Advanced System Optimizer for around 4 years now and have had great success with not one single crash or problem related to them. I use the Ad-Aware for spyware related cleaning. I only use a couple of the tools that come with ASO (Registry Cleaner, Registry Defrag, System Cleaner, & Startup Manager) The nice thing about those is it automatically backs up the registry and gives you the option of backing up "clean-up" files. It also allows exceptions, directory skipping, and a few other custom options. I have never come across a time where I have had to skip or exclude anything, it works just fine with ADT/ACA. For the ultra cautious, it allows you to review every file or key that it will change/delete.

Here are the links:
ASO -
http://www.systweak.com/asov2
Ad-Aware -
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_pro.php
(there is a free version of this that works just fine)

Hope this helps

spywareblaster is great at preventing the spyware from getting in in the
first place by filling those registry keys

ccleaner is great

beyond spybot and all the different cleaners there is one that includes them
all Hitman pro. http://www.hitmanpro.nl/hitmanpro/ try that I found stuff
spybot alone could not have.
