Non-typical CAD Standards question

Trust me, I know all to well the subject of CAD standards has been discussed
into the ground, however most of the CAD standards discussed deal with the
AEC industry. That is understandable since a huge portion of users fall
into that area of usage. What I am interested in though is what other
industries (besides the AEC) are into standards and what type of standards
do they utilize?

Any insight would be extremely helpful.

Thanks
Phillip

Phil:

Take a look at AISD.org and steel detailing / shop drawings in general. They
have very peculiar but well documented drafting conventions and standards.

I worked for a geotechnical engineering company involved in everthing from
site development to nuclear waste disposal to gold mining. There were no
established CAD standards as far as I could tell, so we made up our own as
we went along. The important thing was that we created standards that made
sense for general application, modified for special cases, and STUCK TO
THEM. It took a lot of brow-beating to get the engineers to follow our
standards, but for the most part they were intelligent and got the idea.
