Anyone heard of a NETBEE LSP "virus"? Apparently once it gets into your AutoCAD systems it is difficult to remove.
What I saw in the Civil 3D 2012 startup text window was a bunch of random foreign language characters mixed in with a normal startup, Acroplot loading, an attempt to run SSX that failed with an error message, crash of the S::STARTUP function preventing expected LISP code from being loaded, a message about being unable to run a precompiled file and the word NETBEE mixed in there.
Loading a second drawing allowed the S::STARTUP functions to fully load.
