I used to change xref layer's colors in this manner(-la c 8 *|*) but found that it caused
very bad side effects: Since the visibility of a layer is controlled by whether it's
color is positive or negative, it turns on all the xref layers. Today I use a custom
program to overcome that limitation but by using the layer manager, there are no such bad
side effects if you change the colors (because it retains the color signs).

Yep, but I'm also interested in speed, which means to me a profound
understanding of the command line. I don't think you can know AutoCAD
without
understanding command line syntax.
'-la c 8 *|* "" ' is imminently faster than opening any dialog box -
particularly the layer dialog.
Now that I "see" it, it makes perfect sense.
But it was just hovering on the edge of my "dirt-dauber" mind until now. ;0)
I started reading this thread at roughly 4:55 PM MST here in AZ.
Most often we wouldn't be changing all Layers colors in a particular XREF in
this manner. Sometimes we want a certain Layer to be less "Screened" than
the others in that XREF. Some need to stand out more than others.
At least in my mind. ;0)

Which she answered correctly.

Well, perhaps for some people. I think Osnap Tracking completely sucks,
myself.
But it was weird enough that I figured it would throw someone, and I was
right.

She actually did give the right answer I was looking form, which was to use
Layer 0 and color Bylayer.

Perhaps.

I was really looking for UCS. I think Dim Aligned dimensions are next to
useless
because of how they behave, and wanted to see if she knew that.

She had no clue - never saw it before.

Properties 🙂
or Pedit Close.
It's important because so much depends on closed polylines, and I had a rash
of
incidents last week where hatching failed because people weren't clocing
their
plines.

Again, wanted to see what she knew. If she did, great, if not, no biggie.
