License Manager and VPN

We are considering upgrading our current internet access to allow us to use
a VPN.

We would like to have the ability for a remote office to request a License
from our server at the main office. We would also like to allow some users
to be able to request a license from home.

My reseller tells me it is possible and sent me a link to something on the
web site. It is quite vague.

I would like to know if anyone has had success doing this and degree of
difficulty.

Thank You,

Conan Witzel

I'd suggest asking this in the autocad.network newsgroup. I believe it's
supposed to work, but you do need to have specific ports accessible through
your firewall.

Buy a standalone version. Not only will it be incredibly slow it's going to
be a huge headache.

It is only slow if you try to run AutoCAD over the network. If all you are
doing is getting a licence over the network, the packets are really small.

It works fine we have been doing it for years... I would expect that you
would want to use a VPN rather than let the general public use your AutoCAD
licenses.

Gordon,

Have you had any success with this?

We would just be getting licenses for the remote site. This would work very
well for us as we also have some vertical products (LDD and Civil) and
buying standalone for them isn't very practical especially for very limited
use.

Do I just need to outline my needs for my VPN/Internet provider. In other
words can I do this without allot of knowledge about TCP/IP.

As I mentioned the documentation I have found at AutoDesk and LMtools is
sketchy at best and my Retailer apparently has limited experience with this.
(Although quite good otherwise.)

Thanks,

Conan
