layering standards (ASAP) please

I have been recently asked to contribute to a layering standards convention and apart from how I think it should be done I was interested in knowing how everybody else is coping with this headache. I am particularly interested in the structural and civil engineering diciplines and am based in Ireland. That said I am still interested in how the rest of the drawing community is coping. Any guidance gratefully rec'd.

Look in to PLOT STYLES

their use is a good bit different from Layers when
plotting

Re: layer names, etc... go with what your clients
require.

Nothing?  Only then, choose from other's
advice.

 

And, my advice is worth only as much as the invoice
I sent  😉

You may consider adding the size to porposed pipes for sewer, water, storm
drain, gas, etc in the Civil layers.
"Estimated Quantities" is symplified if layering is considered as well.
Easements, right-of-way, setback lines would benefit from their own layers.
As David Kingsley states "...one good thing about Standards is that there
are so many of them to choose from ;-)."

Everyone has their own thoughts when it comes to
standards.  You can get quite a variety of things here, if everyone
contributed.  I work for a Civil Engineering and Surveying firm, and I have
spent the last year slowly building a document that encompasses as much of our
standards as I can get.  We are going to implement it soon, despite the
fact that it isn't done.  What we haven't done will get done as needed, and
our standards will be an everchanging creature I am afraid.  If you are
interested, I could send a copy of some of the things we have in our standards
though I am not sure how pertinent it would be to your situation.
