Layer Dialog Box

Does anyone know how to lock that layer dialog box in ADT 2007. The problem is that I'm in a large firm, we have layer standards and every person thinks that they need to create layers. I'm sick of this crap!!! HELP!

Send a memo out stating:

"Any layer which does not conform to the office practices and CAD standards set forth, will be deleted along with the items belonging to that said layer."

When a drawing comes back to an individual and they have to redo their work, the ***& will hit the fan. Someone upstairs will have to step in and make a formal announcement that this is not acceptable and that the standards must be heeded.

I have a guy who did that to me. That's how I came up with the idea. It only had to happen once and I let the staff all know that our standards are there for a reason, and I condoned the deletion, if only for a lesson learned.

Let's just hope your higher ups are just as reasonable. 🙂

Welcome to the club. I have figured out every single way to automate layer
creation, menus, programs etc.. and I still see nonstandard layers. I have
beaten the dead horse so often it stinks.

those that use non-standard layers lose some of the automation
power...

Until something in the the various APIs is built to allow us to send electric
shocks to people who do these things, I'm afraid nonstandard layers are a way of
life.

How about some loaded code that detected the creation of a new layers
and compared them to an acceptable standard. If the new layer wasn't on
the list, a user defined level of warning is issued.

Sorry, no electroshock option available.

Detecting code is a great Idea... Does anyone know any code for this? Thanks for all your comments...

There is a command - standards. After setting this file up, you can compare a drawing against it and it will show all "things" which do not match the STANDARD. Layers will show up too. I don't think there is a way to have this file stop the creation of non-standard "things" but it will identify them and correct them either manually or automatically.

just incorporate the standards check as part of your process, maybe even having those who input the bastard layers do the check themselves
