Inventor 5.3 - Mouse wheel stopped panning.

At my work place we are only supplied with inventor 5.3. on one of the computers, pan stopped working.

I know you can hold F2 and pan around, but clicking and holding in on the mouse wheel no longer works.

Is there anything you can do on this old version of inventor to edit and change the pan options so the mouse wheel works again?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's strictly in the Control Panel >> Mouse settings. If it is set
correctly (using the wheel), then it may be the mouse.

given that you are using a very old version of Inventor, then I'm going
to assume that the computer is also very old, and tell you that you
probably need to replace that mouse. I have to replace mice about every
two years maximum, because I wear them out.

what your boss is going to find out if he ever has to replace those
computers, is that the newer operating systems that are now available
probably will not support that old version of Inventor. It's time that
your boss spends some money, and gets all of you on the road to improved
productivity. You are now 10 versions behind. That is no way for your
company to be able to make a return on their investment.

If the only way to change it is the Control Panel, I don’t think I’m going to be able to fix the problem. Version 5.3 doesn’t have the Control Panel.

As far as using 5.3 in the first place, I agree with you entirely. In college I used version 7 and 8, and the program chair always thought us to stay up to date, they make new versions for a reason. Unfortunately my boss dose not think the same. He basically uses equipment tell it brakes and then buys something that’s new but cheep in price, but also what he doesn’t see is its also cheep in quality. Its not just in the computer area ether, its the same way in the shop. From what I have heard from coworkers, he has been doing this for 20 years and it doesn’t seem like that’s going to change any time soon. I just graduated last December from college, but even I know that things aren’t being ran correctly. Its just a bad situation.

Thanks for the assistance.

Control Panel as in Windows XP Control Panel, not a "control
panel" within Inventor.

I hope you're not planning on staying there long. Part of the mindset of an
employer who uses this approach is that they tend to keep the people they
have (and usually keep paying them peanuts) because their skills are so out
of date they can't compete in the job market. Even Inventor R7-8 experience
isn't going to look all that impressive on a resume. Ditch that loser just
as soon as you can, and find a place to work that isn't actively trying to
hold you back.

It's possible that Autocad is so mature and uniform across the versions that
you could settle on an older version and still keep your marketable skills
reasonably current. Maybe. With Inventor, it just isnt that way. I
wouldn't work for a company that was content to stay even a couple of years
behind the current version.

Try to set your text back to normal size.  Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display

If you use costom scalling it messes with Inventor.
