Get the Apperance of a CIVIL3D Function In LDT

Update the inverts or labels on your profiles easy and quck. No more human
error or math needed.

Use Dynamic Labels to automatically calculate your inverts for profiles
drafted.

Process: Draw a line at any elevation across the profile. We will say 180
for this example.

Create a custom label to say INV: {Length/10+180) I have Length/10 to
compensate for my vertical scale and then add 180 to the length to give me
the true invert elevation

Measured Vertical Length = 20

Every 10 feet Vertical is truly 1 foot so that is why the equation is in the
first part of the label.

Example: 20/10 + 180 = 2 +180 = 182

Then, disassociate the label from the line and move to where you want to
have the text placed. If you skip this, the label will always return to the
line it is linked to when updated.

If the profile line work is modified, just extended or trim the line that
the label is associated to and the inverts are automatically recalculated.

It's always accurate, no human error on math, quick because you don't need
to think.

Hey Sean;

Aside from the fact that this post showed up in Cad Manager, rather than
LDT? 🙂

Or were you just looking for helpful comments?

I hope you re-post this gem over there, after receiving said comments - if
that was the intent.

I was looking for comments if any to refine my statements. As CAD mangers
we tend to sometimes take our knowledge and skip steps. I just wanted a
second oppinion to see I f I did that.

I'd like to see this in action. I have trouble comprehending how it's
going to update once you disassociate the label, and then updating it if
the profile is updated (since it's disassociated and all)

And to be honest, why go to so much trouble to emulate Civil 3D? Why
not just use Civil 3D?

I did not mean disassociate. I ment Edit label Properties and uncheck Align
Label to object. Why do this. Well, if you are on a budget, you need to
work with what you have. Speed and accuracy is always what we are after

In that case, you might want to "refine that statement" in the LDT
group. What you're saying in your original post is extremely
misleading. I know what you're saying, now, though.

And where did you find out about this C3D functionality? From the NG?
A demo? Your own copy?

And what we all want to do is make more money in less time

Civil3D has the abilit of what is know as smart tags. Smart tags link
profile view to plan view. It knows that a change is one spot can and will
affect other items and thus updates them. If you move the pipe in plan
view, the profile is automatically updated. Also, Civil3D will also
calculate the inverts automatically. I like this functionaltiy beacuse it
would save alot of time. So, I wanted to take that example and try to
replicate it as I could in LDT. I could get as far as calculating the
inverts automaticaly. Profiles use to take me a very long time to complete.
I now do them in half of the time and my numbers are correct.

I found out about the feature in CIVIL3D because I am am always looking at
the new releases of CAD to see what they can do. Some items are backward
compatable, some are not. I am part of a LDT users group and a Civil users
group. I am trained as a programmer so logic is my strong point. We are
also looking at becomming an autodesk reseller too.

I think I've heard a little about this 😉

Good luck.

As to why not use C3D, for many of us C3D will not be fully implemented in
production for a year or so. This is a nice little tool to use in the
interim.
