Force user to update rev when changing dwgs

Our draftsmen have a terrible habit of forgeting to update a drawing when they make changes to it. I need a way to force users who change a drawing to add their initials to the drawing before they can save and close it. Any ideas? We use AutoCAD 14, 2002 Mech., LT 2000i, LT 2002.

Do you check the drawings ?

You could work with the payroll department to
develop " a terrible habit of forgeting to pay your employees". Do you tell them
they need to do it and do you write them up when they don't. Is it accidental,
do they not do it on purpose or are they in need of organizing skills.
?

We use this pretty dang effectively. This updates at plot and at saves. HTH.

This may not help you much but we have an Rtext
string in our title blocks that automatically updates itself to the users
initials while he is in the drawing.  Therefore any plots always have the
initials of the person who plotted them.

That's close, but not quite. The draftsman/engineer is not always the one plotting the drawings. Often, it may be one of the engineering clerks. The initials or username of the last person to modify and save the dwg are what I am really after. And that rtext function appears to be a part of Autodesk Express Tools, which we don't own.

Training, show by example, training, show by example, training, show by
example, and more training: and if all that fails, show them the door. Lots
of real professionals out there looking for work right now that know how to
do their job 😉

If you go to 'File' ----> 'Drawing Properties' ----> 'Statistics' there
is an entry for Last Saved By. It is blank in mine, but maybe it's a
step in the right direction if anyone knows how to get this to work.

We place a small, simple block into our drawings
with attributes for filename, engineer, drafter, last accessed (date), and last
accessed (time of day).  It works in combination with our customized menus
and gets updated automatically under certain conditions that we feel suit our
needs.  For example, when a drawing is first created, the user is prompted
for the engineer's name, and the other attributes are filled in
automatically.  If someone opens an existing drawing just to have
a look at it (zooming, panning, etc.) or to plot it, it won't update.
If they open an existing drawing and use any of our customized commands to
draw/modify something, it will update automatically once, then remain idle for
the remainder of that drawing session.  We also have a pull-down
menu command to update it manually at any time.  This works good
enough for our needs, since we're mainly concerned that the actual file name is
on there somewhere, and so we know who to give the prints to when they pile up
on the printer.  The code could be modified to be more agressive and update
every time the drawing is opened, closed, etc.

We use something like this... we use
rtext to pull out the login name and time + date variables into a text string
that updates everytime someone opens the drawing...
