DVD vs. CD

Just wondering...

I have not received every product we use yet, but why is Map 3D 2008 still on four CDs and the other products I have received (AutoCAD, Architecture, MEP, etc.) on a single DVD ?

It's hard to start a Map installation and go do something else when you have to change the CD four times !

Well at least these posts somewhat balance out the ones I've seen about the
other products being shipped on DVD's instead of CD's.

lol... yeah ~crying helplessly~ I want a dvd!

actually, I believe I've posted before that all I am asking for is an
audible notice when I need to change cd's... I'm sitting there lord
knows how long reading cada... erm... working on another project... when
I suddenly look up and wonder just how long that little 'please insert
disk 2' notice has been sitting there.

Back in R12 days it took over 2 dozen 3.5" floppies to install AutoCAD Plus
D.C.A. D.C.A. was later Softdesk then Land Desktop. So I'm glad Civil 3D is
on DVD's.

I just tossed out our r12 windows floppy disks that had been collecting
dust in the obsolete software closet. They alone filled my wastebasket 😛

Also, for those with no DVD player, you should note that there is a piece
of paper that ships with the DVD stating that you can go to
http://www.autodeskmediarequest.com to request a CD version.

what's that? ~blinking with curiosity~ is that a black case for a mini-cd?

(jk... I remember the floppier floppy disks, but, I'll admit I didn't do
floppy installs for ACAD, I used R10-R13 back in HS though)

I cried lefty-discrimination and used R10. We had those things (only
they were like black plastic hingy things instead of wood), but, I
couldn't stand using them because my elbow ended up all cockeyed.

Yup. Then I went to Architecture school and we sat at cafeteria tables and
drew on newsprint tablets with dirty rocks. True story, BTW

And people wondered why I left Architorture for engineering. Bunch of
wackos.

When they told me I "haven't explored the design enough." I was gone.

The "design" was a stack of sticks and rocks.

Fruitcakes.

This works with a number of apps. I haven't tried it with Map 08 but you
could dump the contents of each CD to one network folder, map a drive to it
& run setup from there. You could also write that folder to a DVD.
