DOT CAD Stds...

Hello all,

Does anybody have a comprehensive list of what CAD platform each State DOT
has standardized on? The latest sales hype from Bentley says 37 are on their
platform. That seems to be much less than I previously thought - have
several switched over to Autodesk products?

Thanks in advance for any info......

Indiana DOT uses AutoCAD.

Aren't we one of the only ones, too?

Also - at least with Illinois DOT (and it wouldn't surprise me if it were
also true of others) they have been generally at least one release behind
current. This is particularly an issue with the current and last release of
the aforementioned software due to changes in the file format. Perhaps
software companies' aggressive release cycles are a bit much on government
budgets and standards beaurocracies.

In addition to the general cad file format requirement, IDOT (and maybe
others) now require project data in a specific engineering software format -
and it's not XML or land desktop. LDD = no help to me. Whether governments
a) have the right to dictate the tools to the consults, and b) ever actually
DO anything with the project data, are separate questions.

In my cad standards research I've found most states list there standards
online for public viewing, if you can't find a comprehensive list, most
likely they will list their standards at their DOT website per state

I found out Colorado does AutoCAD \ Eaglepoint also.....Massuchussetts
requires DXF files...
Am going to put together a list - with Bentley only claiming 37, maybe
Autodesks penetration into the market is greater than I thought.

Let's see: 37 out of 50 is 74% share. Sounds pretty high to me.

You're right....but somehow I had it in my mind it was about 48/50. Thats
why the Bentley ad surprised me and I got curious as to just what it exactly
is.

It was at one time. In a rather slick marketing ploy several years ago, Bentley gave away several copies of MSTA to state DOT's in hopes that they would use them and in turn require their subs to use the program. In many cases it worked.
