Consultant Design Software Use Survey ?

I work for a company that uses many outside AE firms to assist with its work. I would like to get a clearer picture of how how they are using design software and intend to create a survey to send them Nothing really in depth. I have only very few really important questions formulated but was wondering if anyone had done somthing similar and had developed a series of questions.

What I have currently is just the following. My central objective is to gather information to use as ammunition to support an internal move toward the use of Revit.

Which of the following design software does your firm currently use (check all that apply)

AutoCAD
AutoCAD Architecture
AutoCAD MEP
AutoCAD Civil
Autodesk Inventor
Autodesk Revit Architecture
Autodesk Revit MEP
Autodesk Revit Structure
Autodesk 3ds Max
Autodesk Design Review
Other (list)

Which of the following design software is your firm considering purchasing (check all that apply)
AutoCAD
AutoCAD Architecture
AutoCAD MEP
AutoCAD Civil
Autodesk Inventor
Autodesk Revit Architecture
Autodesk Revit MEP
Autodesk Revit Structure
Autodesk 3ds Max
Autodesk Design Review
Other (list)

If you do not currently use Revit, would you consider using it if a client requested it?

Does your company have a file-sharing website?

Paul,

You need to be a bit more specific about "civil". The current product is Civil 3d 2010. It is not backward compatible with past versions, and requires object enablers to view the proprietary portions (like contours (surfaces), alignments, sections, etc). Now, stepping backwards, there are versions of Civil 3d going back to 2006 and their companion Land Development Companions, and prior to that (2005 back to R14) the Land Development Desktop. Many firms are still using LDD software, and some are in transition to the C3d.

There is a "crippled", less costly version of Civil 3d, Civil 2010, but I doubt that many firms are using it, in preference to either the full civil 3d, or continuing to use the tried & true LDD. It can be "interesting" trying to get these packages to talk to generic acad or revit.

Thanks for the input. I agree with your thoughts about the varieties of civil programs and had debated that myself. I also thought of putting in options for specific releases of AutoCAD. perhaps going back to 2008, but worried the lsit would get too long.

Could the respondants write the release next to the products they have checked?

I'm thinking of using SurveyMonkey for this and send the consultants a link. I've never used the program so don't yet know what it can do. Your suggestion is an option, though.

As other have suggested, you might want to include which version, are they on subscription, do they use the software in 3D, are they using BIM (there is a differance between just documenting in 3D and fully using BIM), do they use any other add on packages eg ecotech for green analysis.
