Can ADT3 Handle This?

Say, hypothetically, I had a project with 100% construction docs and wanted
to create a detailed 3D model. I am thinking of using ADT3 to completely
model a performing arts complex (along the scale of the Sydney Opera House)
with 3 co-joined buildings and multiple floors in each building. The detail
level will be a complete 3D recreation of the construction documents based
on actual constructability phasing. I am looking to verify
constructability, identify any conflicts, identify safety concerns as the
building is erected, identify possible problems with staging of building
materials and minimizing their repeated movement across the site., etc. I
am not talking about skinning the buildings for a quick avi, but actually
recreating the documents in ADT3 and using the resulting model and data set
to prove constructability, explore alternate phasing, it will also be used
as a communication medium for talking with owners, committees, etc. Has
anyone "fully" modelled a large scale building or master plan for a campus,
etc. How does ADT3 respond with such large models (assuming multiple files
exreffed into a master model). What kind of hardware am I looking at? (Dual
1gig w/2gig ram?) This model would include all building trades disciplines,
(I know, I know, Building Systems isn't available yet.) but duct modelling,
structural member modelling, major plumbing, electrical cable trunks, etc.
would be necessary to verify conflicts, etc.

Anyone done anything on this scale?

Let me add some detail and see if AutoCAD can handle this or do I need to
look at another software package for a solution.
2 buildings 250,000sf with 3 levels or floors in portions of the buildings.
Building 1: Opera/Ballet House 250,000 sf w/2480 seats
Building 2: Concert Hall 250,000 sf w/2200 seats
Skin of the building is probably 40% glazing (with very little being
vertically plumb) the rest of the skin is stonework.
Think complex, non-planar, alot of angles, sloping walls, curved surfaces,
alot of volume, etc.
I am not talking about visualization (pretty pictures), but solid modelling
and AEC objects to see potential problem areas, conflicts, possibilities for
value engineering, etc. Of course the resulting 3D model may then get
revisited and have materials applied etc. but this is not its primary
function or value. Please give me an idea of the size and scope of the
largest building project you have done that was done strictly in AutoCAD, a
desktop product, or AutoCAD with some third party add-on package.

Thanks,

That sounds awsome! I have worked on some big stuff but not at all like that! and my work is pretty conventional. Im lucky if the designers give me a curve hehe
As far as your goals, I would say a very savvy adt operator could do it. I would try no doubt but I would limit the smart parts of the model to the "normal" construction. I would model the rest. I'm not sure if ADT3 does complex non planar. If it was me I would say yes I could do it in Acad w/ adt. I would use Viz and Lightscape for the images. It will be huge! But a warp capable machine would handle it.
