Calcomp Drawingboard Digitizer Tablets

About 14 of us in an Architectural firm use the Calcomp Drawingboard 3. We are going through an ADT transition with no major problems. Rumors are that AutoDesk will eventually phase out the digitizer tablets in AutoCAD. How true is this rumor?

I don't know about the validity of the rumor, but if you recall, Autodesk
used to ship a series of ADI drivers for various brands of digitizers. Now
you must have a WinTab driver loaded and it simply uses THAT. What does that
tell you?

I gave up my digitizer with R12 and haven't looked back. You DO realize that
your Calcomp DrawingBoard III is probably the last one you'll own? Calcomp
is history.

In general, I don't see digitizers going away. I don't see them remaining as
an effective input tool for AutoCAD, and in fact, I think their usefullness
went away some time ago. But with pressure sensitive pads and products like
what "Studiodesk" promises to lead to, they will maybe evolve to some other
purpose.

Duly noted.

But again, note also that Autodesk simply allows the use of a
Wintab-compatible digitizer driver. In other words, it's up to the digitizer
manufacturer to provide a Wintab driver, and they'll use it.

Matt,

Also, there are 3rd party vendors that provide a wintab program, such as
Virtual Tablet at vtablet.com. Myself, I do not use the tablet area, but I
really like the programmable buttons.
