CAD/IT

I'm not sure how I got roped into this.....well, yes I do, these things plug into the wall (therefore it's an IT issue). Our office equipt. lease is up for renewal, and we are taking bids from several new Vendors.
My task for the weeks is to research and compare different office multi-function copy machines.....I was looking for a website similar to Consumer Reports for commercial office products. Anyone have any ideas?

With the huge varieties of makes and models, I would start by selecting a
couple vendors and asking their sales people for a demo. A major part of
your decision should be based on cost of supplies (toner, etc) and cost of a
maintenance/service agreement.

We've already done that, I've got a spread sheet set-up so we can compare apples to apples, etc.....

I've looking for Consumer reports (reviews/opinion)....There are a lot of that type of websites, but all seem to be geared to consumer electronic (phones, computers, video cames....). I've found very little in regards to office equipment/plotters reviews.

Its always a warm and fuzzy experience asking one's peers for their opinions
of course (especially here) but you'd have to be a real IT lame-o if you
don't know how to use Google yet or web search in general for that matter.
The "trick" is learning to use the Google command line. Its also pertinent
to note Microsoft Live Search also supports a command line and has gotten
quite good and in some ways is starting to look and feel more useful than
Goggle as of late.

In fact installing Live Search with IE7 supports the most useful
configurable search textbox I've ever tried and I've tried many many many
toolbars. People who do not want to remain lame-os can submit one search to
their preferred default search provider and then select another provider
from the drop-down and use Alt+Enter to get the response for the same query
in a new tab.

//also spelled
multifunction printers site:pcmag.com

ditto.

Also important is the turn-around time for service (especially if the machine is "mission
critical").

We have a machine here that breaks too often (in my opinion), but the service is local and done very
quickly, so its a keeper.....for now.

Look for one to scan to PDF and email you the PDF /;-)

We got the Xerox M118i and it works like a charm! If you want you can
hook it up to a fax phone line and scan to fax too. We paid about $2k
for a demo unit.

Ciao!

Try to avoid Ricoh/Savin (or any of the other brands of Ricoh). We have good
service from our vendor, but we see the technician far too often.

We use the minolta bizhub here and its a workhorse. Same day service. Scan to pdf/tiff to e-mail. Z-fold/tri-fold/bi-fold/3-hole punch/staple. I swear it does everything. It even makes watermarks.

hey thanks everyone,

I did find a couple of websites that helped. I also did some digging through BBB, which were very helpful. Like many of you said, it's the companies that provide the support for the products that really make or break.

Here are a couple of the resorces I used.

And of course the Better Business guys.
