Instead of using the search function use the command line.
start button, run, cmd, cd\, del *.bak /s
Make sure that any programs that use .bak files are closed before doing
this. It also can be used with .tmp files, .old files, .sv$ files and
any other file types that routinely get generated by any software.

My problem.....the XP search engine also lists these files when they're located inside a zip file, therefore not allowing me to delete them. (Not sure why users have to zip up BAK files and what not, but it happens!) So how can I go about scanning my server and delete all those files, even when they are located inside a zip file? I am not looking to open every zip file to delete....that would take a few years! 😉
