AMD or Intel

I have been put in charge of putting together a quote for a new CAD
station.
I could use some help on choosing a processor. AMD Phenom 9850 2.5GHz
or Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz?

This station would be used for both 2d and 3d work, using AutoCAD Arch
2008 and 3ds Max Design 2009.

Both quotes that I have put together (AMD and Intel) are about the same
price and pretty much the same hardware with the exception of the CPU
and Board.

Which is better for Autodesk software?

Any help would be appreciated.

Shawn

I'm building my next system on the Phenom CPU. I've had great performance on
AMD for over 10 years.

AMD does deliver great performance....BUT... their great performance is
not as great as the current Intel chips (although it is a lot better
than it was or than Intel delivered with the Pentium IV family.

Do you have documentation on that from AMD and Intel?

Intel is definitely the current best choice. For a while there it would have been AMD, but they seem to have dropped the ball.

If you are planning to use the station for intensive rendering from 3DSMAX, use AMD and ATI graphic card (use the best, full of memory) and put tons of good RAM.

But if you are planning to use it just for 2D/3D CAD (light 3D) both are good processors.
