Accessing Help files from a server

I'm trying to have everyone access the help files from a server location. I've copied the entire Help folder over to a location on the server, and then re-pathed the help file location under the "Options", but this only causes a "ADTU.chm file not found" message. I know I have the path correct. What did I miss? ("Why?" you may ask - So that I don't have to upload the tutorials on each and every computer.)

Hey, Va.

Please be aware of this limitation, and how to hack a solution:

Thanks Corey.

Here's what I discovered:

The pathing under the Format - Options - Files was not correct in our custom profile. We had things changed under the "Help" files, but not in the "Support Files." Duh.

Okay, after a HUGELY frustrating day of trying to get the tutorials to work, I've found that this is rather random.

Are there known errors with the .chm files in ACA 2008??? I found some others haveing problems with the .chm files in 3DMax and AutoCad 2008.

As a recap: I downloaded the tutorial .chm files from A'desk per their instructions. I then copied these files to a server. In our company profile, the Help file under the Support tab is pathed to the Help folder on our server (I might add that the contents of this folder are identical to the one on my particular local drive).

I can access the tutorials fine.

Other users, once the profile is imported, cannot access the tutorials.

How, exactly, does the .chm file work?

TIA.

Problems with accessing CHM files on a server is part of a Microsoft "hotfix"
that is an unfortunate side effect of strengthening Internet security. CHM files
are essentially encapsulated HTML files and the help system uses IE to view
them.

The solution is to import the following into your Registry:

=================================
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\HTMLHelp]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\HTMLHelp\1.x]
"EnforcedDirectories"="%WINDIR%;%ProgramFiles%\\Movie Maker"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\HTMLHelp\1.x\HHRestrictions]
"MaxAllowedZone"=dword:00000001
"EnableFrameNavigationInSafeMode"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\HTMLHelp\1.x\ItssRestrictions]
"MaxAllowedZone"=dword:00000001
=================================

Thanks Matt. Question: Does this need to be done on EVERY machine? (My assumption is YES.)
