3D Land Desktop application add-on

Does anyone remember the post about a month ago or sooner where someone was talking about a 3rd party app in development that seemed to help with residential development design? Wasn't sure if it was in this forum or another... figured i'd start here...

ASE Software (www.ase-software.com) has one as does Steltman Software
Solutions (www.rsteltman.com)

I've not used either in production, but am impressed with both of these
groups.

Ah... thanks James. I did happen to recall Mr Steltman's site after the
post, but i was thinking of the ASE product. I've used the steltman product
and was just wanting to compare available solutions. Seems that steltman
focuses on point blocks while the ASE solution seems to tap 3d polylines...
Interesting at any rate.

Thanks!

Let us know what you find out. I was looking at ASE a couple of months ago
and liked the approach. I spoke with about 4 of their customers and all of
them were very pleased. I obtained a 30 day demo but was not able to spend
more than an hour or so on it due to work load.

I saw a demo of ASE at AU this year. I saw two downsides to the software. One was that it didn't create Land Desktop defined profiles. The second was that it didn't take into consideration the side slopes on lots. Depending on the slope of a street you need to increase the width of the lot to allow for a 2:1 side slope. ASE didn't account for this.

I'd be interested to hear from people who've actually used it for design to see how it worked out for them.

Looks like this is certainly where historically the software (LDT) has fallen short, at least by the replies. And by ASE's own admission (on their website), born from this frustration as well. I suppose it is one thing to create an "application" to do the Staples "that was easy" button, but another to make it somewhat universal... the future is bright as they say...

I have not delved into the ASE software enough to know whether it has those
capabilities or not. It would be prudent to call and ask them before
arriving at conclusions.
