Questions

1. If I recieve a link via email and click it, it takes me to the site info
page or the project files page and not to the document or folder itself.
Why?

2. If I have Buzzsaw open and recieve a link via email and click on it it
opens a second session of IE, attempts to download the client for about 1
second, recognizes I have it and then takes me to the project files screen
after login. Why can't it see I have it open and take me to the document?

3. I am having more users report in with not being able to view excel files
on the version of 5. We consistently get error dialogs when attempting to
view. Have you had more reports of this?

1. I just tried this, and it worked great for me. I went right to a text
file on my site. Do you have any spaces in the project, folder, or file
names that could be causing the browser to interpret only part of the link.
Are you using a foreign language operating system or a set of names with
extended ASCII characters? Other than that, I can't imagine why this would
happen. What URL is failing for you?

2. All references to that have
http://projectpoint.buzzsaw.com/client/project/folder/file make sure you
have the latest application files. When using the browser, this is what it
does when "/client" is in the URL. If you want to avoid this, you can create
a "thin client" URL by simply removing "/client" as in
http://projectpoint.buzzsaw.com/project/folder/file. That should take you
right to the file without any checking. The ProjectPoint application is a
single document interface, and one instance does not reference any other
instances. The dynamic load libraries (DLLs) are already in memory, so they
don't get reloaded, but as far as an up and running client suddenly
switching to the new file - it does not do that.

3. With regard to viewing of Excel files, if you run in the browser, there
is always difficulty. Internet Explorer (the main program) is running
ProjectPoint which is running Excel. If you use ProjectPoint.exe directly,
things work out better. It's only ProjectPoint.exe (the main program)
running Excel.exe. This has been a day one problem. What operating system
are you using?

Greg,

1. There are a couple of things that would prevent you from getting to a
file on a site. First, would be if someone sent the link and then delete,
renamed, or moved the file. The second would be if you do not have access to
location to where the file is located. If neither of these are true it may
be worth a call to the support team. (800)-892-0449

2. The link is designed assuming that you do not have Buzzsaw open at the
time you click on the link. If you already have that Buzzsaw site open the
link will show you the path to where the file is on the site, you will
simply have to navigate to that location.

3. If the XLS view issue is that you get an error saying the file cannot be
found and mentions that if you are opening form the recent files list the
file may have been moved or deleted. This issue was fixed in our latest
client. (5.0.888.23) You will simply need to instlal this new build to fix
this problem.

Please let me know if this answer your questions.

Each link points to a different server environment
and we alternate between then. For example, Buzzsaw 4 sites were on the
projectpoint.buzzsaw.com servers and Buzzsaw 5 sites are found at
folders.buzzsaw.com.

Now that all users have been migrated to the 5
(folders.buzzsaw.com) site we will take the 4 (projectpoint.buzzsaw.com)
environment ofline and begin to prepare it for Buzzsaw 6.

so the cycle goes:

Buzzsaw 4 (projectpoint.buzzsaw.com)

Buzzsaw 5 (folders.buzzsaw.com)

Buzzsaw 6 (projectpoint.buzzzsaw.com)

Buzzsaw 7 (folders.buzzsaw.com)

...etc....

Thanks,

It appeared what happened is when Buzzsaw generated a url for an email
notification it somehow truncated it to a point of ineffectiveness. One of
me engineers sent me the link and neither he nor I could get it to work. I
tried to "copy url" from the right click and we each had no problems.

That still didn't work. I have been corresponding with Fred Mieske from BCS
about this. I think I really confused him because he stopped responding.

Thanks for the info. I use the ProjectPoint EXE exclusively. I have build
5.0.888.10. the EXE does not alert me that a newer version exists. So if
users wish to obtain the new version, they should uninstall the existing
client and then revisit the site using Internet Explorer. This will allow
the CAB file to download and install the latest version.

Greg,

I appologize for the mix up. I said the XLS problem would be fixed in the
.23 build and it turns out that the fix did not make it into that build. The
fix should be in the build that will be released this weekend. In the mean
time, xls file that cause this issue will need to be downloaded to be
viewed. Sorry for the trouble.

Thanks,

John

No problem, can you post a link to the new one when it comes out?
Thanks for the help.
