Buzzsaw Implementation- Questions

Well, I'm in a stage of testing buzzsaw trial.I need to thoroughly check all aspects before I propose it for my company with large amount of users.Naturally, i have a series of questions, i will be posting here, looking for all your help.To start with question number one :

1. Speed. Its all about uploading and downloading speed.Have anyone tested this and can share their experience? As I tried upploading a 25 mb document, buzzsaw said, 389 days left.jeeeesus....As I checked the rate, it was about 1200 bytes /sec and most of the times 0 bytes/sec and I get the message "There was an error uploading data to the server.network error.ooperation timed out', very frequently.

mine is a 100mbps , high speed connection.i have no problems downlaoding from yahoo, msn, ftps, other data from internet. They just download like a charm.

So, my first ground work, is speed, speed & speed.once cleared, i shall post question 2.

Cheers,
Unna

I believe that the trial site server is not part of the production setup,
hence does not have access to the fast and powerful servers.

If I was you I would confirm that with somebody at Buzzsaw itself.

Those numbers sound atypical. Something is not correct. The ProjectPoint
client application zips up files for uploading to Buzzsaw. It unzips them on
download. So users don't have the hassle of having to make zip files yet the
download/upload times are as small as possible. Buzzsaw has high bandwidth
connectivity to the internet. My guess is that your company firewall may
have something to do with this. You were probably using https for security
purposes. You may wish to check with your IT guy.

Trial sites are hosted on the same servers as the regular production databases. Where did you get the mis-information that those were otherwise?

The original poster was correct. Examine your network connectivity to the Buzzsaw servers for problems.

Considering all the above cases, that the firewall, http etc are all corrected, can you tell me whats the average upload & download speed rate of Buzzsaw?

You should only be limited by your internet bandwidth. When you first login,
you will see three numbers posted in the status bar on the bottom left of
your ProjectPoint application window. This shows the time spent on the
Buzzsaw server, time spent for internet transfer of data, and time spent
processing the data on your local machine. You can see that the Buzzsaw
server time is a small fraction of the total time. This applies to login,
but the file upload process is similar. You will spend some time zipping the
files on your machine. Your bandwidth will determine how long it takes to
transfer the files to the Buzzsaw server. Once the files are on the Buzzsaw
server, they are stored as zipped files, so they don't need to be unzipped.
It takes only a small amount of time to record their existence on the site.

Scott is correct. You shouldn't be limited by our servers in regards to download/upload speeds. Your experience leads me to believe that you may be experiencing a problem with the proxy server on your end. Buzzsaw is a HTTPS connection and occasionally proxy servers can cause a delay.

Drop me an e-mail at alex.willingham@autodesk.com and I will connect you with the right people at Autodesk who can help you resolve this.

I would also encourage you try the connection form your home network. I'd would expect you'd see more reasonable ul/dl speeds.

Thanks Alex.I will sure try it at home & check the upload/download speed. If I had further problems, will sure drop you an email.HTTp / Proxy information was quite useful.

Hi,
I'm using Buzzsaw from Japan. The speed depend on the internet connection. When I use Buzzsaw from our office, the speed is not good. Because our office environment is slow internet connection. However, when I use Buzzsaw from my home, the speed is fast. My home's environment is DSL and I don't have any stress.

You should get better internet connectivity to your office.

We have the state of the art !!
But we are behind proxy.
Thats the way gulf countries are.!! so Buzzsaw simply doesnt work here in the gulf. It's ok outside gulf.

The ProjectPoint thick client supports firewall proxy authentication automatically. Once the user enters their proxy name and password, subsequent ProjectPoint requests automatically use that proxy information.

If your proxy performs poorly, then that's the performance you'll get when connecting to any network application. Have you measured your proxy performance to see whether you're likely to have issues when moving large amounts of data through it?

Thanks for the kind reply David. As you say,

"Once the user enters their proxy name and password, subsequent ProjectPoint requests automatically use that proxy information. "

How do I do this in Buzzsaw?

David is talking about Buzzsaw. ProjectPoint.exe is the name of the Buzzsaw
client application. You use it when you use URLs of the form:
https://projectpoint.buzzsaw.com/client/sitename.
