Time/Date Stamp Visible on Photos

Time/Date Stamp Visible on Photos

Currently, time/date is not visible on photographs taken within BIM 360 FIeld.

Having visible time/date stamps on photographs would be a huge improvement of the system for UK contractors and a question I have been asked countless times this year.

We looked into purchasing a separate app but the operation would be cumbersome as the time/date would still not be automatically applied to the image itself and the user would have to go through the process of adding the time/date stamp after taking the photos.

We would like to see this added to BIM 360 Field at some point to avoid our Site Managers having to take both their iPad and a digital camera into the field. It would definitely streamline the process somewhat.

I believe that this is an important feature. It would also be valuable to have the ability to sort by the date on the web or iPad versions as currently it sorts by the image name (being the image's GUID) and doesnt place the photo's in any sort of chronological order.

Agreed to both original post and daniels comment.  Also, if there was any tags added, it could also add to timestamp.  This would be great to have the option to turn this feature on or off inside the app.

Great idea - thanks for the input.

We are making a few improvements to this area in our next release.

I am forwarding this to the Product Owner for our Library for further review/comment.

Michaela, would having access to the photo taken at time stamp wherever photos are viewed be sufficient for your needs?  Can you describe the value of seeing this timestamp on the photo itself vs as an attribute of the image file?

Hi Krystian

Because if the photo is to be used in a court of law it needs to be presented as an image with the date stamp and time burnt into the image. Construction projects go to litigation more often than you think and its standard practice to present in this way.

You're not going to bring a laptop into court and show the adjudicator your BIM 360 Field web application and the associated attributes.

@mellis

Please review and subscribe to BIM 360 Field release notes if you have not done so already.  I'm happy to report that we now support photo time stamps in BIM 360 Field.

Thank you for your feedback!

Report photos names now show timestamp information

Reports that reference photos as attachments to issues, checklists, tasks, equipment, and daily updates will now show the date and time when the photo was taken.  Prior to this change an internal Field image id was shown.  In cases where a photo caption was entered, the new photo name format will show <Photo Date Time Stamp> <Caption>

Photo Time Stamps

Project administrators now have the ability to place time stamp information whenever a photo is taken within Field mobile. In Field Web, go to Project Admin > Details > Place Timestamp on all photos taken in BIM 360 Field for iPad. Additionally, photo Taken At date and time information is now available for attachments.

Other improvements

  • Control Photo Quality within Field mobile iPad settings. Setting Photo Quality to medium or low, will greatly reduce file size and sync time while minimally affecting the actual image quality. Go to iPad Settings > BIM 360 Field > Photo Quality.
  • Photo Exchangeable image file format (Exif) information now contains Latitude and Longitude data whenever enabled in iPad settings.
  • List view feature further enhances the grouped pushpin functionality, allowing users to more easily interact with multiple pushpins when placed in close proximity on a floor plan.

Now you can apply original date and timestamp on the photo while capturing it from smartphone camera with an app named "Auto Stamper" which allows you to what exactly you want in this thread. You just have to install this app in your phone then set date and time different text style, formats, color, size and position as per your preference then click a photo with smartphone camera and date and time automatically added on it.

App avail for both users Android as well as iOS.
