BIM 360 Android App

BIM 360 Android App

Simple, really.  BIM 360 app for Android.  We aren't all apple folks out here.

This is one of the questions I am asked most frequently by subcontractors and SMEs.

In order to use BIM 360 Field most effectively, we are asking our subcontractors to 'buy in', however, this means that if they are going to use it in the field, they need an iPad.

Many of the subcontractors are very small businesses who simply cannot afford the investment of the iPads when they may not be using the system on their next project.

We would find it much easier to get their buy-in if they could buy a much less expensive tablet.

Please do consider this as it is a real issue.

On most of our northwest projects, we have been unable to persuade subcontractors to buy tablets, they simply use the desktop version which slows the process down somewhat.

Thanks for this request - certainly a common one.

I'd like to clarify - are you thinking specifically of Android smartphones, rather than tablets?

Also - is this primarily for subs?

How important is model viewing in this case?

thanks-

I think that if Autodesk wants to capture this market of technology in construction they should be designing for Apple and Android, tablets and smartphones, for all roles. Model viewing would be nice, but looking at and creating issues, checklists, photos, etc. is far more important.

After 10 years in the IT field I switched careers and after 10 years as a union carpenter I am now at a site manager level. I see a day in the future when the man swinging the hammer has a digital resource in his toolbelt. If you build it, they will come.

I need it now.

Having an Android app is the difference between us either implementing or not implementing BIM 360. Android tablets and phones are much more prevalent than apple products in our office and

A360 has an android app, why not BIM 360?

Specialist site phones like Dewalt, Catapillar etc are Android. The majority of consultants, clients and subcontractors have android phones.

If autodesk want it's use to be widespread, BIM 360 needs to be on Android.

+++++ support for Android, Windows mobile, etc

Here's why:

http://www.gartner.com/newsroom/id/3215217

iOS users amount to around 20% of the market.  20%.  By limiting to only those who use iOS, you are limiting against 80% of the global market.  Yes, smartphones.  Yes, tablets.

Also:  your competitors already have multi-platform support...

Yes, I too agree with the statistics. Autodesk is loosing their market by constraining themselves to IOS.

In India people doesnot use IPAD for day to day activities and definitely not in a construction project, where there are more chances of physical damage to the device. considering it to be the costliest mobile device, people tend to put it office or limit the use to constrained environment only.

So if Autodesk want to bring BIM360 to construction management. you need to bring in the Andriod app.

Today we released a BIM 360 Docs app for Android phones and tablets.  It is available on the Google Play store:

Our company is a BIM 360 Field enterprise customer. BIM 360 Docs is still lacking too many features that are currently available to us in Field. Changing to Docs would be a step backwards.  However, we are receiving a lot of pushback internally and from our trade partners because many of the trade partners do not use Apple products.  Please make other platforms available for Field while Docs is continuing to be developed.

I agree @harry.mckinney

The inability to have all apps available for android as well as apple baffles me

Thank you Joan for release of BIM360 Docs Android app..

But What about BIM360 Field. It would be great if you can bring in BIM360 Field Andriod app, which will be a breakthrough for Field management. It need not have the models view, which can make it heavy.

Also BIM360 Docs doesnot have a tie up with Field or Glue. Correct me if I am wrong. So we need to switch platforms for managing the stuff. If DOCS is linked to the Library within FIELD. this would be a unified solution for Project management.

Started an Idea for an Android app for Building Ops too. Here.

I think that having an app that is compatible with andriod devices would be a great asset.  I have many subcontractors that have android devices they cannot use out in the field because they lose service in the building.  I hope this is under development for future jobs.

BIM 360 Docs is not good enough since my jobs use Field for issues, tasks, checklist... everything

Hi,

The BIM 360 Docs Android app had a name change in November...it is now the BIM 360 Android app and supports not only Docs functionality but also next-gen Field Management capabilities such as checklists and issues.  Here's a link:  https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.autodesk.bim360.docs&hl=en

Hi Joan,

I have tested this app... sorry to say.. I have still not been able to start up the app on my Samsung S8+, I even tried on other android devices and an iPhone.

the only screen I get when signing into the app is a message saying "Please check your network connection and try again" been like this for a week now.

all other apps work fine, so there is nothing wrong with the network connection.

@Anonymous I will send you private message so we can exchange emails.

I'd like to work with you so we (along with the Android team) can resolve this. Sorry for the inconvenience.
