how to delete versions or models

I want to delete older versions of models. Glue won't let me because they are part of old versions of a merged model. I dont see any way to delete old versions. I want to clean up my folders. How can I delete old files? Or how can I delete old versions?

Hi Larry,

Thank you for posting your inquiry in this forum.

To answer your question, deleting models that were part of a merged model is currently not supported.   The product is aware of it and trying to find a best solution.  However, it is highly recommended not to delete models but instead, create a folder within the project to move models that are no longer used.

One of the benefits of saving the model instead of deleting it, is ease of access in case it needs to be retrieved again for various reasons, afterall space is not a big issue in the BIM 360 Glue environment.  Restoring a deleted model is a time consuming process and may cause a negative impact with existing information.

I hope you find this information helpful.

Sincerely,

Hi larrys:

It is possible to delete out the merged model first and then go and delete your individual models.

The trick to this is that you will no longer have the merged model and will need to make a new merged model.  Your history, clash detection, markups, etc. for that merged model will be deleted.

Step 1:  Click on the “Merged Models” icon first (it looks like a Rubik’s Cube).  This is important.  The Merged Model(s) must be deleted first.  Right-click on the merged model and select “delete”.  You will need to confirm that you are deleting (be careful, this will delete a lot of important information)

Step 2:  Then click the “Models” icon.  It looks like 1 large cube with 2 small cubes.  You can then delete each individual model by right-clicking and selecting “delete”.  You will need to confirm that you are deleting.

I only follow this process to start over or to completely delete a project (deleting a project entirely requires that it first be empty of any data).  Otherwise, to avoid deleting, I would create a new folder within the models tab where I can place old models out of the way as Frederick recommends.

I'm trying to test this BIM 360 Glue process for a customer of my software. I created a 30-day trial account. I uploaded a DWG Model to the sample project but it was the wrong DWG. Now I'm trying to delete the 'bad' DWG. I see instructions telling me to 'right click the model and select DELETE' or 'Use the BIM 360 Toolbar to delete...'. But I do not get an option to delete when I right-click and I do not see a toolbar of any kind. I'm looking at my project (the sample project) in either IE or Chrome browser (PC), and I see the 'bad' model, but I cannot delete anything. This model has not been merged to the sample merged model. I get nowhere from the Project Admin interface.

Hi Rob,

The workflow described above is just a work-around for deleting a version or versions of merged model but it is not recommended to be used unless absolutely necessary.  If not done properly, data may become lost or worst case, an entire merged model may be deleted by accident.

If the model you need to delete has not been added or has been a part of a version of the merged model, you may simply delete the individual model using Glue Desktop.  From your description, you are using Glue Web.  Glue Desktop can be downloaded and installed from https://b4.autodesk.com/desktop.

Once installed you should be able to access the project and delete the model.

Thanks, Frederick, you moved me into the 'Desktop' viewer, and you were correct that I was in a Web viewer before.

However, I still do not see any way to delete this non-merged model. In the image below, I am in the Models view, and I've placed a 'selected' check mark on the model I want to delete. I select the "More Actions" button and this is what I see:

Then I tried the Right-Click approach:

I just do not see any "Delete" actions.

Hi,

To delete models you can just go to the Models page or Merged Models page depending on what it is you are trying to delete.  In you case, it will be on the Models page.

Check the box next to the model whether in thumbnail view or list view then right-click, it should display the Delete option.

Delete Model - Thumbnail View.PNG    Delete Model - List View.PNG

I hope this helps.

Frederick, As you can see in my screenshot (two posts above this one), I DO NOT have a "DELETE" action on my right-click on the model in question. I am in the same "Models" view as you but my action list differs. Do you have any idea as to why? Is there some other place/person I should report this to? I appreciate your attempt to asist, but I seem to be doing exactly as you suggest but with different results.

Hi Rob,

No, you are not in the same place as I was showing on my screenshots.

The screenshots you have shows that you are inside the model, wherein you actually opened the model and you clicked on the Models button while the model is open.  My screen shots are from the Models main page where you can see all the models in the project.  We can schedule a remote support session if you want me to walk you through.  I have some available time between 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm PDST.

You may also need to check what type of access you have in Glue.  Limited members can only add models but not delete it.  I do not think it is the case for you but I just want to mention it for reference.  Here is the link to access types: http://help.autodesk.com/view/BIM360/ENU/?guid=GUID-468796BF-7AB0-459C-8148-A35971C332EF

Thank you!

Thanks, Frederick. I finally reached the page you directed me to and was able to delete the unwanted model. I don't know why it seemed so difficult until today (are you sure you didn't update the service when I wasn't looking?) but once I stayed out of the actual Model view the DELETE action was available on right-click.

Thank you for your patience. We will not need to connect in a screen-share after all.

Since limited users cannot delete merged models you should not allow them to make version changes to existing merged models. They should at very least be able to roll back the version. Learning usually involves making mistakes and the whole system breaks down if no mistakes are allowed.
