Unresolved Problems

Hello again,

Have not received any helpful hints yet from a kind soul out there
about Hatch shrinking.
Never got any reply about my previous "Solid Fill"
question either.
Am I being shunned for still using R6.01 or is my continued lack
of basic knowledge beyond helpful suggestions?

You may be having problems with your news reader still.
This is the first the the post has appeared , to me anyway.

I still use R6.01

Hatching.
Try using the 'Hatch Selection' tool from the all in one toolbar rather than
hatch from the property toolbar. this will keep the hatching size relative
to the polygon
rather than the drawing.

When I hatch I firstly hatch as normal to check appearance & when happy
with the result
select 'none' & then 'Hatch Selection' this saves problems if I change
Rotation Scale etc for
a different hatch on the same drawing.

Solid Fill
I don't have your example to comment on but depending on the complexity you
may be able to
copy the region to another area of the drawing, edit it just leaving the
region you whant to hatch
& using the 'Join' tool create a new polygon & hatch it.

regs
Graeme
R6.01 until there is a real advantage to upgrading.

Graeme,

The mere fact that this post and some of the other previously
sent can now be read by this illustrious discussion group
proves that I am finally back on the right track.
The original post was dated 6/21/02 but was sent via the
obviously wrong BellSouth/newsmia..newsgroup subscription.
It was my fault for not remembering the correct settings
in my normal panic attacks at all Fatal Errors and self
induced crashes at that time.

Thanks for addressing the Hatch and Solid Fill problem.
Will follow your suggestions.
Did not attach the small JPG samples since even they are a
No-No according to the rules.
If you don't mind, I will send them to you directly.
I appreciate your help.

Hello

In your Graphic options and Hatch settings make sure the Hatch Spacing is
always 1. Then, only use the entity settings to set scale and rotation and
this will avoid global settings stuffing up your drawings. The trap is the
Hatch Spacing, as this is a leftover from Drafix and has global
implications.

Any hatch that is bad, right click on it and go to entities and reset the
scale factor to bring it back to normal, but first get the Spacing and any
Global values back to 1.

Thanks,
That works & it's still a hatch.
I had tried to edit Entity hatch settings thru graphic options
but it only seemed to apply to polygons that were added
after the changes & not to any that existed at the time.
Never thought to edit entity properties.

Paul,

Thanks. Hatch problem resolved.

Without appearing greedy, may I appeal to your infinite wisdom
to have an answer for my Solid Fill problem?
The landscaped island [for lack of imagination green fill]
consists of two semi circles at each end, a straight line at the
bottom and a 3 Point Arc at the top.
Since no attachments are permitted, (___^^^___) this is my simple
Rube Goldberg visual presentation under the circumstances and
where ^^^ represents the arc. All of course are polylines.
Can one join them through Trim Join, Snap or Translate command
to get a polygon to be filled or is the Irregular Polygon choice
the only option available? I am trying to avoid to have to go
tediously around each semi circle and the arc in 15cm or less
intervals to simulate the curves for smooth instead of ragged fill
appearance for printout at a larger scale.
Since there many similar different shapes on the site plan, I would
appreciate any suggestion you might have to reduce this lengthy,
unsatisfactory process I am using now.

Gerhard, I recreated your enclosed boundary in Sketch 6.1 and was able to
Edit/Trim/Join and by holding the Ctrl key, click on one of the end arcs and then
the solid fill showed up ( I had first selected the 3-point arc, two end arcs and
bottom polyline and selected solid pattern from the properties toolbar).

Make sure you snap the end arcs to the ends of the bottom polyline and also snap
the 3-point arc to the end arcs. If there's an opening, it won't fill.

Bob,

Thank you very much.
Now that you explained it to me how it should be done
this remaining BIG problem has been resolved.
It seems so simple now and I feel like an idiot.
The solution will be named, filed and clicked under
"Bob's Polygon" for easy future visual reference as I already
have Paul's Roof, Harvey's 6.01 Patch, John N's Symbol Change,
Len's Line Thickness, John E's Printer, Alm's Character Map,
Marina's NoNo's etc.
Tried yesterday to replace a 15 year old twin garden hose
connection. Used WD40 and liquid wrench and it would not budge.
Beside you being an Autodesk Pro, do you handle Plumbing Problems
too?

Gerhard 😉

Gerhard:

Ace is the place--get a new one. Glad your fill problem is solved. I don't
know much about hatch and fill because I haven't gotten that professional in
the appearance of my drawings yet. They should let you attach yours. The
appearance and attention to detail is always exquisite.

Gerhard

Have you tried turning the fitting the other way? It usually takes me 2 goes
to unscrew anything!!

Use a torch to heat the twin hose connection. Try to unscrew it while it is
hot.
