SKD files again

I recently posted a query about a problem opening SKD files in
AutosketchV5.01. Having had no replies I delved a bit deeper and found a
reference to this in the knowledge base. But this referred to the problem
in version 6 and mentions a patch that can be downloaded. So my new
question is can this be applied to Version5 or do I need to update and
assume that later versions have addressed the problem. It was something to
do with fonts.

Don't yell, Brian. Just spotted this.

I don't believe that there's a converter for AS R5 on the original CD.
But here's what you can do for R6, which you probably got from the
knowledge base:

On the AS6 CD is a 21fc file converter program that will load version
2.1 on your system. It has been stripped to just be a converter so all
you can
do is to open the older version files in it and then save out as a 2.1
skd
format which Autosketch 6 will then open.

Do a file open and set the files of type to skd in Autosketch 6 find the
converted drawing and Autosketch should open it.

If you want to send me the file, maybe I can open it using the AS R6 CD,
convert it for you and send it back.

Failing that, it couldn't hurt to locate an R6 CD and install it. You
can check eBay. That's all I can really say about that.

Try this:

Go to http://support01.autodesk.com/DownloadFind.asp. Use as the search
words "file conversion" no quotes. Choose AutoSketch as the product and
Release 2. All categories. Then GO. It should return 3 files. One of
them will suit you as a conversion tool so you can read the files with
R7.

Not certain about R5, but you can always try.

Thanks for the info. There was only one file listed and that is the one I
have already downloaded and which does not seem to work with Autosketch v5.
What I really want to be reassured about is that if I upgrade to Autosketch
v7 will it work with that? I don't want to waste my money.

Hello

Wait for V8 as the file problems have been fixed in the new release.

How about patches for V7? Shall I throw that beauty away?

Seems a shame to waste all that money somehow. Then again, we ate out
the other night in NYC and it cost double the price of V7. Of course it
tasted better.

Paul

Sounds like a good idea. I will be patient and await the launch.

Fair go, you know I don't work for Autodesk, but a patch would be a good
olive branch!
