No rotation handle v7 for single polyline

The lack of rotation handles for single polylines has annoyed me for awhile,
and I just thought I'd ask hopefully had they fixed it yet?

It ain't really broke, it's just transmogrified. And that's the correct
word.

It's become quite bizzaro in V7. Here's what you can try:

Select the line, and in the All-In-One you'll find the Rotate icon (a
almost-circle with an arrow on the end). Select it.

Click anywhere on the single polyline and the Cursor will pop up to the
Angle field in the Edit bar. Neato, so far.

Enter the angle you want to rotate and tap [Enter]. The Status line at
the bottom of the screen will prompt you to "Enter A Rotation
Basepoint." Click on the end, midpoint, or where ever you want on the
line as the rotation center.

Now start clicking on the line and it will rotate through the angle you
chose each time you click on it, with your chosen center.

It's a mystery why they couldn't include EVEN MORE mouse-clicks, but I'm
sure in future versions they will.

Taking a pill and lying down now...

Oh, the mailman with V8. I'll check it tomorrow.

Oh. Did I mention? There are even *more* bizzarro ways to do this, in
the Land of WAWA. (Work Around)

Use the polyline and place your major line. Place a *second* weeny weeny
line attached at the end. Click off now. Select both and you'll see the
rotation handle. Proceed as "normal" to rotate. (Move the AboutPoint
where you want and Hold the Shift key for smooth rotation as you twiddle
the handle)

After you place it where you want, delete the weeny weeny line.

Hello

When your entity is selected change the Coordinate on the left in the Edit
Bar to GRID and the handles will change if your object is not Horizontal or
Vertical. Otherwise give the [+] key a tap and all will return.

I like this answer Harvey. I too seem to find myself drawing things I do "not
need" in the drawing, just to get what I DO need.

Good Answer ! Good Answer ! (old family feud tv show terminology)

I set my default plus/minus rotation pretty tight and just hit the plus and minus
keys accordingly..................

Good day,

Now THERE'S an answer! I like that. Who knew?

There's so many different ways to do the same thing. That's why there's
a separate country called WAWAland.

I used to like that place, all sunshine and roses. Now, it's a PITA.
Something tells me that it's not scribed anywhere, either. Just a guess.

Tell me, Paul.

Sorry to hear that, but thanks for letting me know!

Did they fix (depending on your point of view of course) the format brush in
v8 so it works like ms office?

Any difference in how layers are handled?

What's the format brush...???....and the handling of layers is the same as
V7.

Nothing has seemed to have changed, except for the NT/2000 registry issues.
Same program, different packaging.

Isn't it a FloorMat brush, we keep one in the cupboard next to the Word Box.

Bingo, Paul! You get the prize! THANK YOU!

Thanks to the others, too. What I called 'format brush' earlier is the
Property Painter in v7, while the same icon in MS office is called Format
Painter, the latter being quite useful in Word and Excel--you just select a
piece of text or a cell whose appearance you want to transfer, and select
where you want that format to be, and it's done. Hoped it would work
identically easily in v8, unlike in v7.

Reading this thread, sounds like v8 will allow you to default your drawings
to something like My Documents/My Autosketch Drawings in win2k, rather than
always to the Drawings folder within the Program file, another v7 nuisance
but not that big a deal.

Whoops! Right after sending my comment about the Property Painter, I tried
it again and see that it works by dragging, while the similar brush thinggy
in ms office works by clicking. So I was wrong in saying that it didn't
work!

Thats why I couldn't make it work ! I fiddled with it a long time ago. The Help
files didn't seem to make sense to me and I could not get it to work. Drag - not
click.

One note on the "my Documents" folder, At least Sketch will remember the last
folder used if the box is checked. So you can create your drawing folder
anywhere.

Additionally, many small businesses (or private individuals) without a full IT
dept. to make sure their firewalling and Virus protection is adequate, are best
off *not* using the my documents folder. Because it is a "default" folder for so
many MS products, guess where the virus and script kiddie writers have their
software go searching for stuff ? Similar is the MS address book and the default
"work" folders of any popular software.

Our company processes (discards) plenty of peoples personal documents every day
that comes from Viral, Re-Directed Stuff that is "sucked" right out of "default"
locations on peoples computers. I recommend one does not use the "my documents"
folder or at least rename it.

Paranoia ? No, Reality.

Can't agree with this, I think the opportunity to keep data files in a
logical one stop location is far greater than associated with the
program path as used to be the norm. I have organised my documents with
sub folders ie Autosketch, MS Word, Excel, Lotus Word, Download etc.
The Autosketch files then default to this directory (which also has sub
folders) which means it is quick to locate files.

Just my preference!

Graham,
I do the same as you. Organization is paramount ! I too have one logical
stop. It makes for easier backups as well.

It's just that my "my documents" folder is not *Named* that. Then any Virus,
Trojan, Targetting hacker or spyware concept that is "specifically
written" to "look" for files, in the "thank you Microsoft for dictating
my life" default "my documents" folder.......**does not even exist*** . It
can't steal from something that is not there. Typically Excel, Access, and
Word docs, all of which fall in the realm of personal information are always
searched for. Believe me, the documents that come thru because of some virus
action and get transferred to others e-mail is incredible. I've seen bank
statements, inventory reports and even love letters. The people who are
losing these documents often do not know for a long time. All thanks to
"default" locations.

See why it is a concern when programs like v8 "phone home"?

This is really an On topic issue. Maybe not so much along the lines of us at
the AutoSketch level. For instance, A very good friend of mine runs a
Security System Business. From Banks to Jewlery Stores, ALL of his clients
buildings and wiring drawings obviously reside somewhere. So, Ductwork
locations, Fresh Air Vents, Etc. are all there for any Crook to use to
develop a plan. I assure you they are not in "default" file locations.

There have been articles written that do indicate that Autocad and other Cad
drawings are being Heisted now and then. So if you give it some thought, You
may see why they even will not store certain files under the "default" file
Extensions but often hidden under something much harder to find !!!

When I get my first real break in life, and I own a Bank or something, I
will be concerned over the handling of information. Today, If you have any
business really, One should be concerned about protecting it, no matter how
big or small.

True, this seems like a paranoia situation. But, really how hard is it to
Right click and choose "ReName" ? Today, there are oh so many few programs
that do not allow you to change the default file locations, well, except
some of the MS stuff. (nice to see you listed Lotus !)

My boss is happy that I am security conscious.... He likes to keep his
information within the organization. Its my job to do so, and I map quite a
bit of my methods out with Sketch ! Those papers go into the safe.

Chris,
I now understand your predicament, or at least I think I do. I retired
some 9 years ago at the tender age of 49 and live in the Isle of Man.
We still leave cars unlocked and stealing a mobile can land you in jail!
Drugs is becoming a problem but every now and then the police pounce and
a few are jailed or shipped off. Best security advice I can offer (most
of my working life was in IT) is if data is important to you then keep
it on a single machine with no network of any kind and that will
challenge even version 8. I shudder to hear of these external attacks
when often there is no crucial reason for the data to be on a networked
machine. By the way one of my clients kept data tapes in the safe and
had a fire, goodbye data. He also took a copy set home just in case!
Regards, and if things get worse, move to a small island.

What's PITA, I'm no good on hacronimbs and I'm still trying to work out 🙂

WAland is all sunshine, 35°C at the moment, but the roses are wilting.
