Converting DWG to SKF

Had a similar problem 2 years ago, appended this question to my old thread
(similar problem different symptom), so if you are seeing this as a
double-post, I apologize.
I'm trying to convert
an architect's DWG files to AutoSketch.
First, he converted them to DWG 2004; I got only an error message trying to
open with V7;
then I installed V9, and now couldn't open the files because various SHX
font
files couldn't be found. Then the architect changed one file to DWG 2000,
and I had the same problem on both V7 and V9, SHX files couldn't be found.
Can anyone help?

I found I was finally able to access some of the DWG files with V9 by making
bogus SHX files. When file opening routine balks and asks for an SHX file, I
went out on the net, found, not necessarily what was asked for, but then
changed the file names to what the opening routine asks for. Can't open
everything though, but thankful for what I can get.
Wonder if it's asking too much to be able to convert the new SKF V9 files so
that they work in V7?

Finishing up my project, talking to m'self here in case someone else, or
even myself some time in the future, has this same problem with this
unfortunately discontinued software series. So far, I haven't found anything
in V9 that I don't recognize from V7, and it looks like anything done in V7
will now open and save as a V9, shouldn't be a problem. We'll see!

One possible difference between V7 and V9 to do with layering. My V9 drawing
is a blend of the architect's converted DWG for a new wing, and a copy of my
old V7 drawing pasted into V9. DWG was bristling with layers, still extant
in the V9, all are ON, but when I tried to cover the whole drawing with a
semi transparent irreg polygon (never used or was comfortable with layers in
V7 or earlier), some of the drawing would not show through even with
Arranging, tried to copy paste all but the irreg polygon to a new V7, but
some of the elements weren't right - dotted lines not right scale or type,
some measurement pointers wrong, etc - drawing is now too complex to mess
with, don't want to lose anything, so will just use it bare without the
irreg polygon finish.

The architect needs to send you the .shx fonts they use. Ask them to do an
"etransmit" which packs all needed files to view the dwg correctly together
in a zip file.
