closing open corners in polyline mode w/AS7

how do I either close open corners or move the controlling input line to one side? When I try to join corners in polyline mode, I wind up with open corner from outside center of one line to outside center of the connecting line.

After you finish with the polyline, you can double click on the end and
use end snap. then move one end to the other end.

An alternative is to use an irregular polygon.

Thanks. Maybe you can tell me why some of my polylines suddenly become regular lines and go to a super-wide pen width. I've had to redraw several lines due to this. I can't seem to find the solution in the manual or online.
Thanks for the info.
