step footings

Could anyone share how they draw step footings.

One way I have done this is to use a single component wall style to draw the
footing only. Where you want to step the footing, just draw the lengths of
the steps. Then go back and set the Z locations for each step. Then draw the
wall itself over the wall footings. Finally, automatically project the
bottom of the wall down to the footings. Note the footings will not look
quite true in a 3D rendering as the steps do not sit on the next one lower,
but in plan they will show the risers correctly. Combining the footing with
the foundation wall with multiple components in a wall style has proven to
me more unwieldy than just drawing the footings as a style separate from the
walls.

What do you set the wall base height to when doing a seperate footing from wall?
