Please help - Fatal Error on WBLOCK - problem is spreading....

If someone could take a look at the drawing I have posted to customer files
called JOHN.DWG with the same subject line, I would appreciate it.

We have many drawings like this that crash on us constantly. Most of our
Fatal Errors can be cleared up with the old WBLOCK * over itself. Our
latest set of drawings now crash when doing the WBLOCK. It is happening to
many of the drawings in the same project directory.

I've tried to dissect the drawing by removing things, but it continues to
crash. JOHN.DWG is completely empty. No entities, layers, blocks,
linetypes, fonts, nothing. Completely purged, but it continues to crash
when I WBLOCK it. Why?

Thanks for the help.

John,

This is a known issue with WBLOCK* (entire drawing) when you have an empty
Layer State dictionary. Basically, at one time, there were layer states in
your drawing, but they were removed. The solution is to create a dummy layer
state and then wblock*. Once you open the wblocked drawing, run Audit "Y"
and you should be good to go.

Regards,
Scott

THANK YOU SCOTT!!!

That did the trick and has saved us countless hours of headaches. I have
scripted a "Save Layer State" and "Audit" in all of my problem drawings (and
their xrefs) and haven't had a single problem with them yet. I can't
believe it was as simple as that. Thanks again.
