New user questions

Hello, all 1. How do you make glass transparent in a shaded model view? 2. How do you open doors in a shaded model view? 3. Why do shaded model objects always appear gray regardless of layer color? Can you turn this off somehow? 4. Why is it so darned hard to find answers to questions like this in the help file? thanks in advance, all

Addressing number four: have you tried the 2600 page pdf. User Guide? You sound like you are doing well, but many of us are very fond of the Paul Aubin "Mastering ADT 2004" book, and suggest that anyone learning ADT get it.
Others will give shorter, clearer replies to the other 3 than I can come up with on a Sunday. Good luck, and have fun with ADT.

4. I'm sure most if not all would agree with you. But to be fair there is a lot of complexity here. I suggest running through the tuturials 1. Drag a glass 'render' material from the Content browser into the the drawing and assign it to an AEC material definition. This material has a nice transparency to it. You will then have to assign this AEC material to the windows etc and make sure they are set to display 'As Material.' 2. While in model view click on the door and properties. Double click the Display Rep (should be a model Rep). Go to the last Tab and adjust the override opening percent box. 3. It's displaying the material assignment (probably 'standard'). Either change material for object, or untick the By Material box in the display rep and change colour to By Layer if thats what you want. Hope that helps a little. nathan "Dana Jones" wrote in message news:40672aac$1_1@newsprd01... > Hello, all > > 1. How do you make glass transparent in a shaded model view? > > 2. Thanks very much, guys. Another: is it possible to make ADT conform to specific building codes? For example, can you make stair rise and run conform to the BOCA or UBC specific requirements? Not sure of the specific rules you mention but the style can use a rules based calculator to control the risers, treads & landings. You just have to enter the information.
