Missing shx files

Hello all
Thanks for helpig me with the rather basic questions so far.

This time I've recieved a drawing that pops a dialog when I open it. The dialog says the drawing requires a .shx file, dgnlstyle.shx. If I [Cancel], the dialog goes away (something standard gets substituted for the missing file), but next time I open the drawing, it's the same. I want to lose the dialog for the rest of my natural life.

1) How kan I figure out which object in the drawing requires the shape font?

2) How can I tell the drawing/object not to look for the external file?

Advance thanks,

Copy a shx. style that you have and rename it the missing font. That way if you ever get the file or give it back it still works like it was supposed to. Or if you want to permently change change the name in all text styles that use it by typing "styles".

By changing everything in your DWG file to stop referencing the missing
shape font, the problem goes away.
STYLE command, and LINETYPE command, along with Filter/Qselect/SSX for
search and select methods should help identify what those are.

Just a guess but from the name I would guess that it is a microstation
line type shape. dgn is the extension for microstation. Probably the
drawing was started in Microstation and save to DWG format. If you are
not going to send it back to the person that sent it to you, you can
select all of the objects and change the object linetype to by layer,
and make sure that all of the layers have standard acad linetypes.
