Keep UCS in World Only

Hello All: I think this might have been discussed but did not find it, so
here it is again. Does anybody know how to make ADT's UCS stay in World
only. I have finally gotten sick of trying to compare x,y,z coordinates and
finding each viewport is in a different UCS. I want to force AutoCAD to
never use anything but world coordinates. Is there a way to do this?

I have been using x,y,z coordinates all my life and almost never set a UCS
other than world. Maybe twice in 10 years of 3D modelling I have felt it
advantageous to create a new UCS. I really hate it that ADT wants me to use
a different UCS for each viewport and don't know how to shut it off.

Thanks for any and all help.

Change the UCSORTHO variable from 1 to 0
Hope it helps.

I know this is an old post and I thought this fixed our issue but then we can no longer draft and/or detail in 3d view, we can only draw in the X/Y Axis.  Is ther another setting that we can check on?

Currently we use all views to detail in and have to keep entering UCS > ENTER > ENTER to put it back into WORLD.  I'm sure there is some command out there that can help us now <crossing fingers>

Please Help!  Smiley Sad

Hi and welcome to the forums,

You have not only replied to a super old post, but to members that are not active (names will be grayed out with an '*'), plus this is a forum for ADT 2007 and older, thus very little traffic here. For future posts, I would recomend finding the forum that matches your AutoCAD product, search for an answer within that forum, and then post a new thread if you can't find anything.

I'm not quite sure what your problem is exactly, but I will blanket cover a lot of UCS/WCS info.

  • To restore the UCS to match WCS, click the UCS orgin grip then click World; OR, If you use the Viewcube pick the UCS selection box and select WCS, OR, use the UCS command (as you are currently)

Commands that are related:

  • UCS - Sets the orgin and orientation of the current UCS
  • UCSICON - Controls the properties and selectability of the UCS icon
  • UCSMAN - manages UCS definitions

System Variables:

  • ELEVATION - Stores the current elevation of new objects relative to the current UCS
  • PUCBASE - Stores the name of the UCS that defines the orgin and orientation of orthographic UCS settings in paper space only
  • UCSFOLLOW - Generates a plan view whenever you change from one UCS to another.
  • UCSNAME - Stores the name of the current coordinate system for the current viewport in the current space.
  • UCSORG - Stores the orgin point of the current coordinate system for the current viewport in the current space.
  • UCSORTHO - Determines whether the related orthographic UCS setting is restored automatically when an orthographic view is restored.
