help...

after SP1 installation,
when I try to set a pre-existing 2007 Project current,
it crashes, and permanently breaks my installation.

Afterward it won't fully startup, and just locks up just after 'loading dll
modelers'. Graphically, it looks to be a Tool Palette issue; as there
appears to be 2 instances overlapping eachother. Probably due to
Project-specific Tool Palettes?

Could my Project-specific Plalette be corrupted?
Hmmmmm. I'll try deleting that instance. and report back.

In the meantime, if anyone else has any ideas? By all means...

OK...

It's definately the Procject itsself.
I deleted the:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R17.0\ACAD-5006:409\Project
History

and

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R17.0\ACAD-5006:409\Recent
Project List

that referenced my corrupted Project.

And then the app started up properly.

so....

How to repair a corrupted project?
any advice?

[This is a shot in the dark.] If you have an XML editor, open the apj file.
Maybe a editor will be able to detect and repair an error that ADT can't.
(I use this technique with some custom database programs.)

thanks for the tip, Larry.

I attempted to open the *.apj with Altova XML Spy
and receive an error message 'file could not be opened'.

what now? I wonder.
Any way to repair an *.apj?

if it helps,
(to anyone who's listening),
I *think* I know what I did to 'break' my Project.

1. I had no Project active.
2. I manually opened some dwgs (Constructs & Views) that are part of a
project (Project 'A')
3. I then set the Project 'A' active while the dwgs were still open.

The application just froze.
No opportunity to submit an error report.
Had to ctrl-alt-del>Task Manager>Applications>End Task to get out.

Another shot in the dark... it may not be the APJ file that is broken, it
may be the individual XML files. Delete them! If the project does not
recreate them, then manually open the files one at a time and right click,
save current layout as...

HTH,

no dice.

still locks up.
It's definitely a project-tool pallette thing, I'm convinced.

It displays a Tool Pallette on top of the existing Tool pallette right
before locking up a nd going all-white screen...

As a last-ditch effort,
I'm going to try moving the project location,
to see if the auto-re-path helps anything...

oh well,
restore from tape, I guess...

If you can still open the individual drawings up (non-pm), then you could salvage them and create a new project and re-set up all the sheets, views, etc. That would suck if the project was too big though...

That would suck if the project was small, even.

Fortunately,
I made very few edits before the Project became corrupted.
Restore from tape *should* work out fine.

I'll only loose ~30 min. of work in a few files.
I may try and slip in a few *.dwg that I edited afterward.
We'll see...

Restore from tape didn't work.
Same error, after setting the Project current.

So,
I created a new Project,
using the old as a Template.

This worked!

FYI,
for anyone's future Project corruption woes....
