Block gone crazy!

I have Acad 2005 and when I try to insert a certain block from another acad file, it goes crazy, and all it's lines are extended and it doesn't allow me to grip those lines, even once exploded. Xref-ed or inserted it does the same thing, but in a different sheet it's fine.

Change the name of the block, then try again: does the problem go
away?

My betting is that the block contains points and they display differently in
the drawing that creats the problem.
I usually have points display as dots but they can display as a cross which
can get as large as the screen.
