AUTODESK - Opening files error

Please see my previous post. the problem is getting worse, some files can
not be opened at all from the one machine, but are fine from the old one.
the error I receive when the file can not be opened at all is:

fatal error unhandled access violation reading oxfffff exception at
6546a233h.

Please help. Thanks

Dave

Dave,

You mention that you are upgrading one of your systems and that's the one
you have problems with, but the drawing opens correctly on your old system.
What is your old system (OS and ADT), and what are you upgrading to (OS and
ADT)?

Do you have any other Autodesk applications or 3rd party add-ons installed
on your machine?

Can you give us a little more information about your crash? Are you opening
the file from the Today window? If so, have you tried without going through
the Today window?

Does it crash if ADT is not loaded? In Options, configure your Demand load
ObjectARX applications to "Command invoke" and restart ADT and reopen the
file.

Does the file contain Xrefs? If so, have you tried hiding the xrefs to see
if one of the xrefs is causing the problem?

Any additional information would help us out greatly.

Hi Scott. Thanks for getting back to me. both systems are win 98 adt3.3.
new system AMD 800, old system pent. III 400. I have been getting the
error(s) even in loading my template drawing, but this morning I tried not
using today window (thanks to your idea...) and so far 15-20 files have
loaded w/o a problem. yesterday I could not get more than 1 or 2 in a row.
should I just disable today window? I will post again later today. Thanks
again!

The errors continue to happen even if I remove my 2 3rd party addins (dti
tools & quickpik). The files usually contain no x-refs or images. If I
select yes to cancel the load, the next dialog has a line that says:

the technical problem detected is:

the next line is blank. I need to fix this problem. Thanks.

Hi again Scott. Last message today, I hope...
It appears if I copy the files to my local drive, I do not get any errors
opening them. I am not having any problems with any other programs and my
network. I do not know if this is related, but I can not get my mouse wheel
to bring up the osnap menu like it used to. If I set mbuttonsnap to 0 or 1
it only scrolls left or right. Thanks for any ideas you can give me, I'm
getting quite frustrated...
