Another Dynamic Block Question

Whenever I create a dynamic block, then only way I can access the actions (or change the attributes if it has any) is to explode the block once I insert it. Is there anyway to not have to explode the block?

Here is an elevation tag that I created.

Your attached drawing looks ok to me.....all you have is a rotation
parameter
and it works fine.
What have done is save the block to a drawing file, and then inserted this
drawing
back into your new drawing.
That means you have a block (the actual dynamic block) within another block
(the drawing
file you're inserting)
That's why you have to explode (the inserted drawing) to get the dynamic
functionality
of the actual block you want.

thanks for your reply. I'm still having difficulties creating a dynamic block and being able to insert it into another drawing without having to explode it.

I have the base entities that make up the block (lines, circle, hatch, attributes) and enter the BLOCK command, select the objects, pick a base insertion point, then check the 'Open in Block Editor' button. Hit ok, then enter the block editor and add the rotation parameter and rotation action. I close the editor and say 'yes' to save changes. I then save the file and try to insert that file into another one and the same thing happens. I need to explode the block in order to utilize the dynamic feature or edit the attribute. I must be missing something really basic. I've created blocks before, but these new dynamic feature are throwing me for a loop. Any further help would be appreciated. I have many blocks to add dynamic features to and would like to get a handle on them.

Funny you should mention that cuz I have the same problem....
I have dyn blocks in a directory on my c-drive and insert them into
drawings from there. That makes me have to explode them first before being
able to use
the dyn functions. That's why I knew the answer to your question.
Once inserted and exploded once....I just copy them around as needed...no
problems there.

But I have no idea how to solve this problem....maybe someone else can ??

In the file you have been working in (where you created the dynamic
block), select the dynamic block you have created, and wblock it out to
a new file. Insert that file instead of the one you have been working in.

Or create a tool that references the specific dynamic block within your
working file.

Thanks Brian...

That made me think...
I did w-block the dyn blocks.....but I should have used the BLOCK option as
the source
rather than OBJECTS as the source.
Using the correct option solved the problem.

I tried that, and I still have to explode the blasted block in order to change the attribute or use the dynamic action. Maybe i need to change a system variable?

Oops. Yeah, that's the key piece of information, and I left it out... 😉

Glad I still managed to point you in the right direction.

Alright, I've figured out what my problem was. The name I use to create the block with, I needed to wblock as the same name. Now it all works. Thanks for all the help.
