AecObjects not displaying

A user in my office had a drawing they recieved from a civil consultant that came in as AutoCAD 2006. They saved down to AutoCAD 2004 but now all the elevations points are only reading as AecDbPoint with a box around them.
The user did not save the drawing as a 2006 file before saving down. Our platform is Architectural Desktop 2006.
Is there any way to revert these AEC objects back into readable numbers???

I think it depends on what the senders and savers proxy settings were.
I used to have a crash occur and a drawing become unusable.
I would save it as an acad file then open it and everything would be back to
normal including aec objects. Basically I would think that if the objects
are gone, they are gone. Just get the consultant to resend. Is the email
deleted too?
