AcDwgFilterImp16.exe running in task manager

AcDwgFilterImp16.exe runs in my task manager occasionally and seems to hog all the system resources. Does anyone know what this is doing? I don't know what is causing the file to execute. It is located in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\AcDwgFilter Message was edited by: brmackay768

It's listed as a startup accelerator. I'd bet that it has something to do
with the layer filter check that runs every time you open a dwg to verify
that the number of layer filters doesn't exceed the number of layers. A
problem generated by bad code in older versions of acad like 2002. The
software generated thousands of layer filters which were ignored by the
program, then when they changed the layer manager code in the newer versions
of adt, it caused either a crash or extreme hang. The fix prior to adt05
was to download a lisp and run it to delete the layer filters. adt06 now
checks it for you and deletes them An improvement, but still a joke,
because all of this nonsense is to fix a problem the software caused.

This is an application that lets you search for text within DWG files from
Windows Explorer.

this interesting think I've encountered is that even when I don't have the startup accelerator running, this process will still run periodically

It can run start when you search for files or if you have a indexing product
like MSN Search Toolbar or Google Desktop Search.

I have this process running on my machine and I cant get it to stop running. I have tried restarting my machine etc and it just keeps coming back up. It takes up so much resources that working with CAD is impossible. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of it or solve my problem, short of deleting the file itself?

It's in you Startup folder. Go to the Start, All Programs, Startup and delete the link to it there.

I did that but it keeps coming back up. I have had to rename that file with bak on the end to keep it from running. Is it intigral to CAD?

I guess I never noticed before. Must be a necessary component. If you're running into performance issues, perhaps you should look at other items/processes running on your machine. Many (like Norton) can really bog a machine down. Either remove/turn off some of these an/or replace with other smaller footprint programs if you have that option.

Thanks for the tips.Today I have been using LDD without this little exe and it has been working fine. I already eliminated anyother processes causing the problem. The Ac process was using all resourse(99%) as if in some kind of a loop. Ill post if I find any problems as a result.

Do you have any desktop search indexing product installed like MSN Search
Toolbar or Google Desktop Search?
They can start this process when indexing DWG files.

I have none of those installed on my machine. I am running windows 2000, would that have anything to do with it?

You can try FileMon from http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Filemon.html
and filter it for acdwgfilterimp16.exe to get some hints on what is going
on. There are also other tools from Sysinternals that you might use if you
want to.

That's the ticket. When I killed of my file search in W7, my memory usage went from 10meg to 1 meg.

I am a PC and Windows 7 WAS NOT my idea. Thanks for the help!
