6' Door in Curtain Wall ADT 2006

I am trying to put a 6' double swing full glass door in a curtain wall. However, the door is only coming in at about 4'8" because of the way the muillon spacing is set up. How can I create the 6' door?

As far as I know, CW door size is based on the mullion spacing. (in ADT
2005). The inserted door usually fits into the mullion spacing. You can
increase the door bay mullion spacing to the required width to change the
door width. You will have to set the Mullion Division type (in the Design
Rules tab in the Curtain wall style properties dialog box) to be manual or
create nested grids.

Isn't that unfortunate.

I remeber the first time I tried to insert a door into a curtain wall, thinking that it would cut right in, just like they do into a wall object.

Needless to say the (lack of) interaction between doors and curtain walls really limits their ease of use. Most curtain walls have doors in them and it would be better if they were easier to add and delete.

Lots of 6-ft doors get cut into curtain walls with mullions at whatever odd spacing, 32", 29.75", you name it. It would be better if the doors could cut an automatic insertion into the wall sytem, with its own frame elements as an option.

Keep the upgrades coming.

That worked but in all honesty it does make for a real bad setup. While I want the doors to be 6' I wanted smaller panes of glass (maybe 4') but I guess I will just have to do with this for now.

Ivanjay:

Here's what I'd do in this situation (see attached file):

1. Turn on cell markers, then merge two adjacent curtain wall cells into
one larger cell.
2. Create either a door/window assembly or curtain wall unit style that
contains the door + two sidelights. Design the style so that the door is
sized correctly.
3. Add this new door/window assembly style as a cell override. (You can
also insert a door/window assembly into a curtain wall cell using a palette
tool.)

Afterwards, add this new door/window style to your library for future use,
and make a palette tool that references the style.

---------

This method is not exactly "user friendly". It leaves a lot of
casual/intermediate ADT users scratching their heads at the complexity of
the effort involved.

I often wonder why the ADT development team doesn't come up with new
commands ("wizards") that simplify these types of tasks.

Another alternative idea would be to use the Interference command from the
Curtainwall Shortcut menu (pick CWALL, Right-Click), and select the
free-standing door instance to "cut" into the existing curtainwall system.
