AUD and Vault?

Is there even a need to use Vault with Autodesk Utility Design? I am working with the substation design side but the customer engineering side would like to passably use the Vault and or Product Stream to store data. Is it even needed?

Autodesk Utility Design 2009 is built on AutoCAD Map 3D, which uses Feature Data Objects (FDO) technology to connect to databases such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, etc. For more information, please see the FAQ site:

The use of Vault or Product Stream would not be required.
