I have been informed by my support specialists that I am the only user who has problems with the model crashing on me many times a day.
Is there anyone else who has this problem and how bad is this problem in ASD 2013.
Regards
Tony
I'm sorry, but your question is so general, that I'm afraid nobody will answer you.
What kind of problems do you have? How did you install ASD? Is your computer powerfull enough?
After my model starts to get big in size around 3 megs or more it starts to to take a very long time to perform autosaves or just a normal save sometimes up to 90secs. and the model crashes regularly through the day. Especially changing from Edition Layout tab to drawing tab. because of this crashing I would like to rely on the recover function but since changing from 2012 to 2013 it has never worked once for me. I still keep trying to use the recover each time I crash but no luck.
The tech support company I use has said it is because I have made some changes to some XML files. EG bolt grade list, bolt dia list, material grade, section catalogue.
I think every case like this must be investigated individually.
First step is always checking the reports sent to Autodesk (possible after each Fatal Error crash).
Hi,
The long save/autosave time might be caused by:
1) saving to a format prior to 2013
2) having some user created 3D solids
3) after update of a Drawing
The recovery file made by ASD after a crash is completely useless. 2012 was the only version in which the recovery really worked. I've sent numerous Tickets to Autodesk via Subscription, but they don't have an answer. The case is still open.
Hi Jakub
While I appreciate your comments I feel you are trying to support a product that is not working to the capcity it could and as for Autodesk I think it is discraceful that they haven't even got the integrity to let me know why my software is crashing too much. When I used 2012 I sent every error report for months and months and never once gor a reply. At least then I could recover the loss with the recover facility. Now with 3013 they have managed to take away the crash recovery as I haven't been able recover 1 single time and have been constantly loosing work. I do try to remember to manually save but sometimes I forget.
Also I have been told that Autodesk intends to stop supporting ASD. Could there be any truth in this. It would seem logical as they haven't fixed anything in ASD for over 12 months

Thanks Luis29
I do use a lot of solids in my models because of the type of work I do. I use them for representation EG walls and floors of buildings.
I guess I could try to work without these and see if that improves the save speed
Tony
Tony,
My observations about 3D solids:
1) It saves very slow.
2) Save as...the document with a new name. Be sure it is 2013 format. It will take half the time it takes for the regular save.
3) Orbit the document, zoom in out do some commands and then try to save (qsave). It should be fast now.
We encountered this problem a few days ago.
So please, keep me up to date about this. It will help us, too.
Lucian.
Though I am dealing with much larger files and some rather detailed 3dmodels, I too suffer from this from about 4-5Mb files and above. Most of the large files is a 20-60 minute autosave or crash. I hate to turn off the autosave, and save takes just as long. It does seem to be quicker if the Model View is ready to display the full model without redrawing. This has been a real pain....
I'm going to toy with how the display is cached and see if anything speeds this up.
Keeps us posted on what you find, too. Thanks!
Ted
You should check to see if it saves as 2013.
Also, try to unload all unnecessary Printouts.
I remember there was an option not to redraw when 3D Orbit. Does anyone knows how to turn off autoredraw?
Thanks Lucis
I am saving as 2013
By deleting the printouts the drawing does reduce in size considerably but I need them there for all sorts of reasons that I'm sure you are aware of.
There is a function in ASD called "DISTRIBUTED WORK" (Which doesn't work) I believe that was for the purpose of reducing file size but still being able to edit the drawings if required.

I wasn't sure if thats what you meant.
I have my SETPBUF at 50. I have always liked to have a large set of drawings on the bottom bar for when I'm editing drawings. Convenience really. I will try to set it back to 15 and see if that helps.
I not able to do much more this year as I'm going away overseas for 6 weeks but will get back in contact with you after the 5th Feb 2013
I will also have some stuff to send to Jakub Brozonowicz so with a bit of luck we might get some problems solved.
I'm not sure where you are from but if you celebrate Xmas, have a good one.
regards
Tony
Nice !
C:\Users\Dell\appdata\local\temp\Hala Scularie ASD_suprastructura_f_DELL_1_1_1454.sv$ saved in 724312 ms
after restart PC and save drawing
E:\Lucru\2012\Scularia_Continental\final\ASUS\Hala Scularie ASD_suprastructura_f_DELL.dwg saved in 159979 ms
So i think need msg box after autosave / save "Thank you for your patience"
