Connect a Rib to a Pipe

I have a pipe that is part of a supporting structure, acting as a column. What I need is to weld a rib/plate to the side of the pipe so I can add back-to-back angle bracing.

Is this possible? I tried various ways, but with no luck. I tried to add a plate, but can't seem to figure out how to get it to rotate to the right orientation.

Thanks

Almost exact. the problem I'm having is that when I add the plate, it will only go in parallel to the end of the pipe.

I must be missing sometihng simple. i should be able to rotate it so it's perpendicular, but it won't work.

How did you do it?
