Can you bolt two beam in a plane other than the xy plane?

You can certainly bolt beams together in the z direction as well. This is a manual procedure. If you have 1 beam sitting on top of another you can bolt the bottom flange of the top beam to the top flange of the bottom beam. This however is glitchy at times. Sometimes the bolts go through all the flanges and other times it just goes through 1 flange. The work-around I have used is to create holes in the flanges you want to bolt then add a bolt to those holes.
