Applying material into existing lines

Hello, 

I have a drawn model of my structure and now i want all the lines to become beams. Is it possible to change them into a material? I've tried adding a beam then matching properties but it just only keeps matching layers and material doesn't change.

you can make them one by one with "Profiles" command and  "Insert by line" option:

On the Home ribbon below where you select the column button there is "Beam, Polyline". it is also on the Object ribbon.
