Raster handles PDF editing?

Hello,

Problem - Our company has started to deal with alot of data supplied in PDF format (ie design drawings given without
an autocad version) These drawings are usually quite large and contain alot of information.
We currently go through the process of redrawing this info in AutoCAD to produce new drawings and design.

Now i know that with Autocad 2009 you have the option to insert a PDF as an external reference and then this
pdf is editable in the sense that you are able to snap to lines and effectivly trace over a drawing with a polyline.

I remember ages ago using Raster for directly editing tiff files and you were able to basically click a button and it turned the whole
drawing (all the information) into lines/circles etc editable points from one click.

I had a look but could not really see if this was true for pdf's as well.

Question - If we bought AutoCAD raster design would we be able to insert a PDF drawing and turn it into Autocad Data much
quicker than our current process?

If so does anyone no a current rough cost for one licence?

Thanks in advance

Kind Regards

Andy

Keep in mind that PDF's can contain multiple object types (images,
paths, and text). If you are able to underlay the PDF and snap to
points I expect it contains paths, not an image.

If the PDF contains image(s) I expect that RD would do a wonderful job
on them once extracted, but I don't know that it can extract them.

If your current process is underlaying then tracing based on snap
points, then you should try the demo of DotSoft's PdfImport from
http://www.dotsoft.com/pdfimport.htm. This low cost utility will import
paths from PDFs forming polylines in seconds. It will also extract
images and place them as AutoCAD images.

Feel free to email me at dotson [at] dotsoft [dot] com.

Right i had a look at your software. It Certainly looks like it would be an advantage.

Is there any trial versions or demos available for our company to test?

Yes, there is a link at the bottom of the page, or using this direct
link. Choose the PdfImport option.
