Menu display and general setup

First, my apologies for the simple questions. But I'm a small user without any inside support.
Somehow the menu options and basic functions have changed, and I can't get it back to what I am used to, and what I need. Here's some of what's changed:
- The Properties of any object I select will not display by either Right click / Properties, or double clicking.
- The Data Connection window which I used for example to either connect to or display DEM layers is no longer displayed.
- I am not able to select multiple objects by clicking on them. Only one item on any drawing is selectable.

If it's related, on startup I get a string of messages saying:
"C:\Program Files\AutoCAD Map 3D 2008\AcadMap.arx is an invalid ARX file."

I've attached a screen capture to show what my current menu dispaly is.

Thanks for any help.

I think part of my problem is in the following error message lines, which I get when I try to select View / Task Pane:

Command: _mapwspace
C:\Program Files\AutoCAD Map 3D 2008\acmapworkspace.arx is an invalid ARX file.
Unknown command "MAPWSPACE". Press F1 for help.
Command: _On Unknown command "ON". Press F1 for help.

I see an acadmap.arx invalid arx file error on startup as well.

If anyone can offer a solution, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Well, the saga continues. I have mostly solved the issues by doing a fix re-install through the Control Panel. The only outstanding item is that multiple objects can not be selected at the same time. I'm still working on that. But if anyone has a solution to that one, I'll take it. So far I've wasted enough of my day!

Try pickfirst and set it to 1.
